Did you know? Teeth whitening is the fastest, most cost effective way to brighten your smile. The desire for a whiter smile has made teeth whitening treatments an extremely popular cosmetic dental procedure.

HOW IMPORTANT IS A WHITER SMILE?

Charles Darwin was one of the first people to study the importance of smiling and the similarity of factors that encouraged smiling across different cultures. He found that babies learn that their crying draws adult attention, but that smiling keeps an adult engaged and interacting with them.

Our first impressions of each other take as little as seven seconds. According to another independent research, a whiter smile has a substantially positive effect on people’s first impressions of each other.

This explains why teeth whitening has been practised by different cultures for thousands of years. Since then, people have been obsessed with coming up with countless teeth whitening options for how to whiten and brighten their smile. It is so important to smile.

Smiling is a universal symbol of confidence and happiness. Your oral health has an overall impact on your emotional health, too!

WHAT IS TEETH WHITENING?

Teeth whitening treatment is a simple process that breaks down stains and discolouration to lighten the colour of your teeth. Because whitening can only lighten your natural teeth, existing restorations may need to be replaced to match your new smile.

DOES TEETH WHITENING WORK ON EVERYONE?

Unfortunately no, which is why it’s important to talk to your Canberra teeth whitening dentist before deciding to whiten your teeth, as whiteners may not be able to correct all types of discoloration. For example, yellow teeth will probably bleach well, brown teeth may not respond as well and teeth with grey tones may not bleach at all. Whitening will not work on crowns, fillings, dentures or implants. If you already have these, they may need to be changed after completion of treatment to match them to your teeth. It also won’t be effective if your tooth discoloration is caused by medications or a tooth injury.

WHAT WHITENING PRODUCTS DO WE OFFER?

We offer at home tooth whitening. We create for you custom made trays to fit your mouth to provide an at home whitening option. You have control of the bleaching process, with gradual results over a 2 week period.

If you are a new patient, we are currently offering a $195 Smile package with an option to add at home teeth whitening for only $329 (normally $500).  ($329 only if you elect to have the teeth within 4 weeks of your initial exam.

IS TEETH WHITENING SAFE?

Having your teeth whitened by a professional dentist has many safety benefits. The dentist will make you use of protective goggles, gels and gum separators to ensure that your gums and other soft tissues in your mouth are not exposed to the active bleaching ingredient. The dentist is also a trained clinician who is able to react in a calm and professional manner in the unlikely event of an allergic reaction or emergency situation. The dentist’s office is also a properly sanitised environment that minimises cross-infection, which makes it ideal for the teeth whitening procedure.

We recommend a consultation with your Canberra teeth whitening dentist, or even a professional cleaning, before undergoing whitening treatment. This can ensure that your procedure is as effective as possible. Speaking with your dentist first can help you save money by avoiding treatments that are less effective for you.

Your own individual treatment can depend on the type and extent of the whitening treatment you choose. We’ll be happy to outline your treatment plan with you during your consultation.
